Friday Print lesson

Since I first planned my doc I have made a few changes. Firstly, I now plan to shorten the time of my film because I realised I won't have enough time to film and edit 20 minutes of film. I am now aiming for a 10 minute documentary. I  now plan to have a professional person to interview as well ( from Learning Support) .The problem with that is the person who agreed to be in the doc doesn't want to be filmed ( just audio) so I need to use college environment shots to go over this. Since the original plan, I decided to use still images to break up the interviews. This will keep people's attention and make editing easier.
I did a bit more research which gave me ideas  I could use.
I watched "What do I desire?" on youtube. It was a short documentary about aspirations for young people in Qatar and noted its features.

  • lots of choppy shots. This was weird and distracting-I'll avoid that. I don't want to distact from what people are saying.
  • long professional looking, company logo opening. It looked good but I don't think I can do it because I'm bad at design.
  • Starts with a quotation ,on black screen with white text. It looked good and was quite effective. I might do it but I don;t want anything too wordy for my target audience.
  • some shots in slo-mo, some sped up. I liked them but I don't currently have shots planned that are suitable to speed up or slow down.
  • 3 classroom shots together- establish a link to education. I like it. I will do this if I need padding time.
  • Pan shot across desks :I like it. I will do this if I need padding time.
  • not many face shots: This seemed strange. Maybe it was about permission. My shots will mainly be face shots
  • lots of crowd , over shoulder and hand shots. I liked the hand and over shoulder shots because they are striking and looked effective. I have already added this to my ideas . I will use them to break up people talking but not distract from what they are saying too much.
  • some use of blur filter and shaky camera. I will put this into my piece.

I watched a short film about "Dyslexia adult literacy"
https://youtu.be/-tq07a6Judg
It had over the shoulder shots of an assistive technology reader which could be useful
A shot pans across inspiring posters. I could do this if I need to fill out my video a bit more.

I found a youtube video "Exclusive: Sir Richard Branson on Dyslexia"
https://youtu.be/HpvF5xCQ7s8
This may be useful for question ideas and on-screen quotes.
I was given advice about how I can improve my blog:
  • I need to note the changes I make to the plan and explain why it changed.
  • I need to note down back-up ideas
  • I need to explain what I have learned from research
