up date

 I talked to learning support about my proposal. They gave me leaflets and printouts that might help. It is all written stuff so I will have to sit and read it for hours. I might get get John to read some of the material and record it on my phone.
I talked to John (LA) about going to school with Dyslexia. I thought about how much my problems were about being lazy and how much was about the disability. I think the disability made me lazy in a way. We also talked about what changed for me at college. It is easier because I like what I do and people expect me to do more by myself so I do.
I made more notes on what I actually need to do.

proposal fmp

In today's theory lesson, I finalised my FMP proposal and started to research sources to use in my video.



Project proposal.
My proposal for my dyslexia documentary project is to document about myself and others that are dyslexic and to educate people about it.
I have chosen to do a video as it is a more visual form of media than a radio show or print. I have more experience in video making and editing and I am passionate about this area of media, and feel that it will be more beneficial for me to do this.
I will ask people at college if they would like to or feel comfortable taking part in the documentary. People that do struggle with dyslexia I will ask them to talk about it and things that they may find difficult, and also people that aren’t dyslexic to give their views on it and what they think it might be, and what might define the learning need. I can talk about the successes of people that are dyslexic and how they didn’t let it slow them down, such as Richard Branson who is the owner and founder of Virgin, and Albert Einstein.
My target audience is people who have dyslexia and people who want to learn more about dyslexia, like parents or teachers. The demographic goes from people who learned they had dyslexia at a young age in school to people who didn’t get a chance to be tested for dyslexia and were just cast off to the side and forgotten about. The parents would be aged 18 to 50.
The title for my video I want to have spelled correctly at the top and mixed up towards the bottom, this will show the viewers what dyslexic people may see. To do this I am going to use After Effects.
I may face a few personal challenges during my research as I will have to do a lot of reading which sometimes I can find difficult. I will do some online research and look at some articles written about dyslexia.
The initial research sources that I will use is videos on YouTube about a similar topic, books from the library that have been written about dyslexia or publications uploaded to the internet. I am going to look at how dyslexia impacts peoples learning from the early years of school right through to adulthood. I have done some research on YouTube and found a video called “I am dyslexic” by Thom J. Davis, where he speaks about his own experiences and experiences of others, he also includes some animations. This video is very similar to what I plan to do, but is very dated, slightly depressing and hard to follow as it is boring. I plan to add more animations to engage the audience.

FMP Research

For my FMP I have decided to go ahead with the dyslexia documentary.
During my research I have been looking at some YouTube videos that are of a similar topic.
One particular video has caught my attention and is very similar to the type that I would like to do. I like the documentary because its fairly short and the guy that is presenting it introduces himself at the beginning and talks about his personal experiences at school and his current university progress. There is also other people on the video talking about their experiences which is something I have looked into by asking other people to volunteer in the filming. I have made contact through my LA in class who has sent out emails asking if anyone would like to take part. I have received confirmation from a lecturer who is dyslexic and she is willing to take part and I am currently still looking for more people to take part, approximately 5-6 people.

I also found a video that is animated showing what dyslexic people see, with words running off the page, I would consider also including something like this in my production, To do this I would probably use computer software such as "after effects" to achieve the animation.

I am trying to think of a title for my documentary today. I don't know what word/words I will use but I think I will repeat the titles over and over with blur, repeated and swapped letters to symbolize what some dyslexic people see when they try to read.

SWOT analysis

Strengths.
The strengths that I have for my Final Major Project are that it is an interesting project, it may help other people to understand the struggles behind dyslexia, or people that do have dyslexia and they will realise that they are not the only one and there are many opportunities. I have a personal involvement with the project as I myself is dyslexic.

Weaknesses.
Lack of enthusiasm of the project because I often change my mind, and this documentary is not something that I am particularly interested in doing, despite others thinking that it is a good idea.

Opportunities.
Personal involvement as I am dyslexic, I can get people from college to take part and talk about being dyslexic this will be an interesting subject for people to see, the facilities that are in college that I can use such as the editing software like adobe and final cut pro, I can also use the cameras and microphones.

Threats.
Some people that I may have to rely on to talk to about their dyslexia may not want to take part, this would be a threat as I would then have to do it alone. I will have to get people to help me film and record for the project.
